SMART CONNECTIVITY IS ALL ABOUT KEEPING YOU ON TRACK.
Connected mobility in the BMW i3.
A fully sustainable system requires a fully comprehensive network: with an integrated SIM card as standard, the BMW i3 enjoys full connectivity with the outside world. This allows you to make use of BMW i ConnectedDrive services to safely reach your destination. To make sure you never run out of power, the mobility service ChargeNow is at your service with the world’s largest network of public charging stations. The BMW mobility service ParkNow shows you where there’s a vacant space – at the roadside or in a car park. When you need a car, you can easily find one close by with the car-sharing service DriveNow.
CONNECTED NAVIGATION.
Simply open the dynamic range map in the optional navigation system for a clear overview of your current range. If the remaining battery charge is not sufficient, the system will suggest other ways of reaching your destination and show unoccupied charging stations on the navigation screen. One particularly useful feature is intermodal routing. This can help save precious time in heavy traffic by recommending alternative means of transport and guiding you to Park & Ride facilities.
BMW i Navigation
To achieve our sustainability targets, we decided it would be best to match the car’s navigation system to the demands of electric driving. With the optional navigation system, all it takes is a quick glance at the dynamic range map to see which destinations you can reach. The system takes account of the remaining battery charge, your personal driving behaviour, the topography of your surroundings and real-time traffic information. This makes it highly accurate. If the battery is not sufficiently charged, the range assistant will suggest up to three other ways to reach your target destination safely. One of these could be simply switching to a more efficient driving mode. The system also shows you unoccupied charging stations where you can top up your BMW i3.
Intermodal routing
Driving may not always be the quickest way from A to B, especially in urban areas. Instead of wasting time in traffic, sometimes it’s better to use an alternative means of transport like a bus, a tram or the underground/subway system. Intermodal routing analyses the traffic situation and includes public transport options to plan the ideal trip to your destination. So before or during any journey, you can always choose the fastest route. Switching to public transport is made as simple as possible – the system provides an overview of up-to-the-minute timetables. And if you want, it will even guide you to a free parking space near the train or bus stop.
BMW i REMOTE APP.
The age of electric mobility opens up opportunities that were previously unthinkable. With the BMW i Remote App you can keep an eye on your BMW i3 whenever you want via smartphone or smartwatch, checking the battery charge and the electric driving range. If your BMW i3 is connected to a charging station, you can track the charging processes remotely. This helps you time your departure to ensure that your BMW i3 is fully charged and preconditioned. And if you wish, the app will also rate the efficiency of your driving.
CONTROL YOUR CAR WITH YOU SMARTWATCH.
The Apple Watch now offers an additional means of accessing the functions of the BMW i Remote App. The smartwatch is a clever complement to the connected smartphone and offers you many relevant status details. Examples include the electrical range, the battery status or information on any doors and windows that are open as well as a large number of practical remote functions and alternative routes – and all of these located directly on your wrist.
SMART HOME.
Manage your home even when you’re out on the road – with the Smart Home App from Deutsche Telekom. All Smart Home devices connected to the app can now be controlled via the display and operating system of your BMW. Regulate the heating, the lights or your alarm system comfortably from inside your vehicle. It’s also possible to programme certain situations, such as the “Coming Home” scenario. Thanks to the functions that were specially developed for use in the vehicle, the “Home” profile is activated automatically as soon as you start heading back home. All information is displayed clearly on the control display of the BMW Head Unit – so that your home is always in exactly the condition you want it to be.
CHARGENOW – QUICK AND EASY CHARGING EVERYWHERE.
ChargeNow offers a comprehensive charging service when on the move within the world’s largest network of public charging stations. The charging stations within the ChargeNow network are displayed via the BMW i ConnectedDrive services in the navigation unit, via the BMW i Remote App or the ChargeNow App. Use and payment takes place quite simply and without the need for cash via the ChargeNow card. Once a month you receive a detailed statement of the costs incurred.
PARKNOW – PARKING SPACES EVERYWHERE. AT ANY TIME.
ParkNow is a comprehensive parking solution: the premium service includes both on-street parking and off-street parking in car parks. Garage parking spaces can be located, booked and paid for via website, app and in the navigation system. In the case of on-street parking, this eliminates the need to search for change, walk to the meter and then the return trip to deposit the ticket.
